Our team
Apis Socialis works on pollinators, habitat and community resilience in Greece and across the wider Mediterranean. Every one of us is within a day of a site we are answerable for.
The core team runs the surveys, the corridor plantings, the schools programme and the accounts. The advisory council reviews the science and keeps us honest about what the data can and cannot support.

Founders
2 peopleThe people who started it, and who still run the field programmes.
Eleni Marangou
Co-founder and field director
Eleni started with eleven hives on the northern slope of Mount Parnitha and the fires that took most of the forage around them. She runs the field programmes and the bargains with the people who hold the land.
Kostas Dimitriadis
Field programme lead
Kostas coordinates the volunteer census across five regions, which is mostly a logistics problem and occasionally a weather problem.

Hélène Marchand
Scientific advisor, pollination ecology
Hélène is a pollination ecologist at a French agricultural research institute and one of the few people we know who is equally comfortable walking a transect and defending the statistical model built on it.
Irini Papadaki
Scientific advisor, data and statistics
Irini built the sampling design the census still uses and has twice sent a report back until the numbers supported the sentence.
